ESL Reading Assignments for Week of Feb. 11

Monday, Feb. 11. "Enjoying ballet."

Preparation: Do Before you read, p. 23. Then scan p. 22 to see what the writer would agree with. Read the whole text, underlining words that are new for you. Try to figure them out from the context. Look them up in the dictionary only if necessary. Put meanings in your vocabulary notebook and bring the notebook to class. Do A, B and C, p. 23.

In class: We’ll go over your answers and do C on p. 21 (not finished Friday) and D on p. 23. Daniel will bring more music for dancing! Hand in corrections on the last quiz if you had less than 85%.

Wednesday, Feb. 13. Reading Lab summaries and reports. Vocabulary review of Unit 3.

Preparation: Bring your summaries of at least 15 -20 pages of your book – no more than 2 paragraphs per chapter (or other writing assignment if I gave you one). Do A, p. 24, in the text.

In class: Be ready to report on your book. Try not to read from your paper word for word. Put notes on a card and use these to talk to the class about the book. We’ll do ex. B, p. 24 together in class.

Friday, Feb. 15. Review and quiz on Unit 3.

Preparation: Study and practice the vocabulary for Unit 3. Watch for a mini-quiz via email to correct with the blog. Give each other quizzes on the vocabulary.

In class: Bring your vocabulary notebook for review before the quiz. Quiz on Unit 3.
